Graduate Records Examination (GRE) 2022-23
GRE stands for Graduate Records Examination, for which over 500,000 aspiring candidates from across 160 countries sit for every year. The Educational Testing Service conducts this entrance exam into masters and doctoral degrees.
Again, there are two types of GRE tests: GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test. The later exam is used to assess a candidate’s subject knowledge in Mathematics, Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Literature (English), and Biology. The schools consider this score for admission into specialized programmes.
You can sit for the GRE test five times a year (365 days), with an interval of 21 days. The ETS considers even the cancelled test by you as one attempt.

GRE Eligibility
Education: Any graduate can apply and sit for the GRE. However, the candidates are advised to the careful while applying for a university program. Some universities’ require a four-year degree for applying for a master’s program. Candidates require a valid passport for applying the GRE test.
Age: There is no age prescription for taking the GRE.
GRE Test Fee
The GRE test fee is about $205 in most of the countries, except China, Turkey, Nigeria, and Australia. In India, the fee fluctuates due to change of the rupee with the dollar. And the table below shows some special handling services and their fee:

GRE Test Registration
There are multiple ways to register for the GRE test. To register for the GRE exam, the candidates need to have a valid passport and a credit or debit card to pay the registration fee.

The popular modes of registration are online and phone. The candidates are advised to take care of their details while filling up the registration form.
Steps to register online:
- Create your account on ETS official site
- Select the type of test: GRE General or GRE Subject
- Select the date and the nearest test centre
- Give your academic details
- Proceed to pay the required registration fee
- Save or print the acknowledgement
GRE Score
Your GRE score is available for a period of five years from the date of your examination. The scores are usually available on the GRE official site. You can access your score by logging in with your credentials.
The score is usually available in two after you have sat for the test. When they are available, you receive a mail from the ETS saying that the test score is available online. Moreover, the score will be sent to the requested universities in two to three weeks.

1.I have low CGPA in my graduation. Am I eligible to take the GRE test?
A: Firstly, there’s no graduation cut-off percentage to take the GRE test. If you have a four-year degree, that’s enough to take the test. Secondly, the admissions in most of the Universities do not solely depend on the CGA you’ve got. They look at your GRE score, SOP, Recommendation Letters, Finances, etc. Finally, it doesn’t mean that high CGPA is not helpful. However, it is just one of the plus points. That’s all.
2.How many times can I retake my GRE test?
A: There’s a restriction on the number of the GRE test-taking.You can retake the test once in 21 days, five times in 12 month period.
3.Can I take the GRE test for doing an MBA in the US?
A: Yes, you can. But it depends on the university you want to apply for. Of late, there is the number of universities considering the GRE score of the admissions into the management programs.
4.Which is better GRE or GMAT?
A: Both the tests are better in their own way. Most of the universities consider the GMAT as a standard test for measuring a candidate’s aptitude for doing business programs. Whereas the GRE test is also a standard test for testing a candidates language proficiency and aptitude. But this test score is primarily considered for other schools’ programs. Be it engineering, law, medicine, science, etc.
