Most Expensive Engineering Colleges in India 2021
Engineering courses in India underwent significant changes to meet the demands of the technical needs and the emerging trends in the job market. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) spearheads the planning, formulation, and dissemination of technical education in India. AICTE has maintained engineering education standards keeping the industry demands, technological disruptions and changes, and global stakeholder expectations in view. As the course curriculum is enhanced, the course fee is also increased. Engineering colleges have focused on knowledge and innovation-driven capability building in students to prepare them to face the competitive world.
First Engineering College in India
Engineering came into the minds of the British during 1837-38. Colonel Cautley, who was in charge of irrigation projects then, trained the Indians in civil engineering. Projects like Grand Trunk road(extending from Calcutta to Delhi), irrigation system in Doab region, Gange’s canal construction needed trained engineers. The first training took place at Saharanpur on civil engineering. In 1846 a batch of 20 students was trained on civil engineering concepts in a tent. Later the students were shifted from Saharanpur to Roorkee and trained in an institute to work on a behemoth project like the Ganges canal. This led to the establishment of the first engineering college in Roorkee in 1847.
